In these photos the Explorer scored
619 on the 24deg. ramp. On Jan. 29 '97 FST fabricated a set of extended
arms improving both the on and offroad driveability. The Explorer now ramps
a 788 on the 24deg. ramp and both the on and offroad handling have been
vastly improved. The first thing I noticed after leaving the shop was that
the truck seemed to stay more level while corning. The freeway ride is less
choppy and the truck generally rides smoother than before. When I fianlly
got offroad I put the Explorer through it's paces. I started off doing
some rock crawling really stretching out the suspension. The extra wheel
travel really keeps the tires planted helping put the power to the ground.
Later, as the dry wash I was driving in met a sandy river bottom I started
running fast over some whoop-dee-doos. The ride is super controlled and
everything has held up great even with my abuse.
